PMB 90/150 Supplier and Exporter

PMB 90/150 Overview

As a PMB 90/150 supplier, we support contractors, asphalt producers, importers, and distributors sourcing polymer modified bitumen in Dubai, across the UAE, and for export projects. PMB 90/150 is a soft nominal penetration range that bridges the 75/130 and 120/200 ranges in the approved PMB line. It suits projects that specify a soft modified binder, while the applicable standard and project requirements determine the remaining binder properties.

We prepare every enquiry against the buyer’s specification and confirm availability at the quotation stage. For general information about polymer modified bitumen and the approved grades, visit our Polymer Modified Bitumen category page.

What PMB 90/150 Means

Each part of the name provides specific information:

  • PMB: Polymer Modified Bitumen, a paving binder modified with a polymer.
  • 90: The lower limit of the nominal penetration range.
  • 150: The upper limit of the nominal penetration range.

Penetration is expressed in tenths of a millimeter of needle penetration at 25 °C. Therefore, 90/150 describes a soft consistency band 60 units wide.

However, the name does not specify the softening-point class, elastic recovery, cohesion, service-temperature behaviour, or polymer system. The governing specification defines those requirements. The product’s Technical Data Sheet (TDS) confirms the applicable penetration requirement and test method for an order.

Characteristics and Positioning of the 90/150 Range

In the approved line, PMB 90/150 sits between PMB 75/130 and PMB 120/200. It shares penetration values with both ranges and overlaps with the upper parts of 40/100 and 65/105. However, it does not overlap with 10/40, 25/55, 45/80 or 200/300.

Engineers generally consider a soft nominal range when pavement design prioritises flexibility and movement, often in cooler service conditions. Polymer modification distinguishes PMB 90/150 from a soft, unmodified binder. Depending on the formulation, it can improve cohesion and elastic recovery and reduce temperature susceptibility.

Still, buyers should assess these properties through the tests required by the specification rather than assume them from the range name. Two practical points also matter. First, a soft binder used in a hot climate requires careful review of the softening-point requirement and mix design. Second, products within the same 60-unit penetration band can differ in consistency. For this reason, the TDS and batch Certificate of Analysis (COA) are important when assessing an offered product.

Typical Applications of PMB 90/150

Where a project specification calls for PMB 90/150, engineers may consider it for the following applications:

  • Asphalt paving in cooler regions or at higher altitudes, where low-temperature flexibility is a design priority.
  • Surface courses and thin layers on flexible pavements, subject to mix design.
  • Maintenance and overlay programmes that specify a soft modified binder.
  • Hot-applied surface treatments, where the specification permits a PMB in this range.
  • Projects whose approved-materials lists include PMB 90/150.

However, none of these applications is automatic. Suitability depends on the specification, climate, service conditions, traffic, pavement design, and required binder properties. For UAE projects, engineers may review harder ranges first because pavement temperatures can run high. The project’s engineers must make the final selection.

PMB 90/150 and EN 14023

EN 14023 provides a European framework for specifying polymer modified bitumen. It classifies PMB through several properties, including penetration, softening point, and other specified characteristics. Each property has its own classes, and the project specification selects the classes it requires.

PMB 90/150 provides the penetration element of a designation. The complete designation must also state the applicable minimum softening-point class and any other required properties. The specification determines those requirements; they are not automatically fixed for every 90/150 product.

Therefore, citing EN 14023 alone does not establish conformity. We confirm the applicable designation and specification against your project documents during quotation. The offered product’s TDS and test results should support that review. Where a national or authority standard governs the project, that document takes precedence.

No Automatic PG Equivalent

Performance Grade (PG) bitumen uses a separate classification system based on pavement design temperatures. Consequently, PMB 90/150 does not automatically convert to a PG grade. Likewise, PG binders are not necessarily polymer modified. For tenders based on PG requirements, review our Performance Grade (PG) bitumen range.

PMB 90/150 vs Conventional Penetration Bitumen

Our Penetration Bitumen range includes unmodified binders graded mainly by penetration. PMB 90/150, by contrast, contains a polymer modifier. Its classification combines the penetration range with the softening-point class and any other properties required by the governing specification.

Soft conventional grades and PMB 90/150 may have similar penetration figures. However, they remain different products and should not be substituted for each other without the specifier’s approval. Polymer modification is not automatically an upgrade either. A conventional binder remains the correct choice when the pavement design calls for one.

PMB 90/150 vs PMB 75/130 and PMB 120/200

These three soft ranges overlap, which can lead buyers to consider them alternatives. The table below compares their nominal penetration ranges only.

PMB 75/130 PMB 90/150 PMB 120/200
Lower limit 75 90 120
Upper limit 130 150 200
Band width 55 units 60 units 80 units
Values shared with 90/150 90–130 Reference range 120–150

The penetration values from 120 to 130 fall within all three ranges. Even so, these grades are not interchangeable. Each product must meet its complete designation, including the required softening-point class. A product declared as one grade should not be offered as another without the required approval.

No range is universally better than the others. The project specification determines the appropriate grade. You can review the full range on our PMB category page.

How to Select the Appropriate PMB Range

Start by answering three questions before requesting an offer:

  1. What does the specification name? If it specifies 90/150 with a complete designation, use that requirement as the starting point.
  2. Which standard applies? Check whether the contract specifies EN 14023, PG, or a national or authority standard.
  3. Which classifications are required? Confirm the penetration range, minimum softening-point class, and any additional properties.

Next, review the project conditions, including climate, traffic, loading, pavement layer, and mix design. Also confirm any consultant or authority approval requirements. Finally, compare the offered product’s TDS and test results with the specification. We can review the applicable product requirements with you at the quotation stage.

Supplying PMB 90/150 from Dubai for UAE and Export Projects

We support enquiries from UAE contractors and overseas importers and distributors sourcing PMB 90/150 through the Dubai market. As a PMB 90/150 supplier, we review each enquiry against the required specification, quantity, and destination before preparing an offer.

For UAE buyers, the quotation follows the binder clause in the contract documents. For export buyers, we also confirm proposed delivery terms, routing and the documents required at destination. We confirm availability, origin and loading port in writing at the quotation stage rather than assume them in advance.

For an overview of the wider range, visit our Bitumen Products page. Buyers who also need general packing information can review our Bitumen Stock and Packing page. Product-specific availability and packing details should still be confirmed in the quotation.

PMB 90/150 TDS, COA and Inspection Documents

Documentation depends on the product and order requirements. For PMB 90/150, buyers commonly request the following documents:

Technical Data Sheet (TDS): This identifies the offered product’s complete designation and specification basis. Buyers can use it to check suitability before ordering.

Certificate of Analysis (COA): This records the tested values for the supplied batch against the agreed specification. With a 60-unit penetration band, it helps buyers assess where the batch falls within the range.

Inspection and additional test documents: We confirm these according to the project, buyer, or destination authority requirements. Buyers can also request a Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

State your documentation requirements in the enquiry so we can confirm them in the offer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is PMB 90/150?

A polymer modified bitumen with a soft nominal penetration range of 90 to 150, expressed in 0.1 mm at 25 °C. It sits between 75/130 and 120/200 in the approved PMB line.

Is PMB 90/150 a complete EN 14023 designation?

No. 90/150 is the penetration element. The complete designation also states the applicable minimum softening-point class, set by the project specification and confirmed per order.

Can PMB 75/130 or PMB 120/200 be supplied instead of 90/150?

Not automatically. The ranges overlap, but each is supplied against its own complete designation, and any substitution needs the specifier’s approval.

Where is PMB 90/150 used?

Where specified, for paving in cooler or high-altitude regions, thin surface layers, maintenance overlays and some hot-applied surface treatments.

Is PMB 90/150 suitable for hot climates such as the UAE?

It depends on the complete specification and mix design. Where pavement temperatures are high, harder ranges may be preferred; the decision rests with the project’s engineers.

Does PMB 90/150 correspond to a PG grade?

No. PMB and PG are different classification systems, with no automatic equivalence.

Can I source PMB 90/150 from Dubai?

Yes. As a PMB 90/150 supplier, we quote for buyers in Dubai, elsewhere in the UAE and export markets, confirming availability, origin and loading port for each order.
